Studio Handbook 2019-2020

For All Parents and Students :)

One of the primary goals of our faculty is to teach life lessons and skills that offer children the best chance for success. Dance education encompasses far more than technique and the steps your children learn. We believe the discipline of dance training gives young people a better understanding of commitment through learning, experiencing the spirit of teamwork, and discovering what they can accomplish through hard work. Our goal is to educate the minds, bodies, and souls of our students, teaching them the skills they needed for a successful life, whether or not they stay involved in dance.

Respect for the teachers is essential. Listen to each correction given, whether it is directed at you or another dancer. A correction is an honor: It shows you how much a teacher cares about your progress as a dancer. Always say thank you when a teacher or choreographer offers you constructive criticism. Nothing can stop those students who apply the corrections in every class and appreciate their teachers knowledge and experience.

Rules & Policies

Class Attendance
It is up to you to make sure your dancer participates in their class. To ensure progress and compatibility among dancers, students must attend their classes. If a child is excessively absent once choreography has started, they will not be able to participate in the recital. Please understand that in order to instruct proper dance technique, participation is mandatory.

Refunds will not be given for any missed classes; however make-up classes are available until April. A Make-up schedule is available in the waiting room. Please email the office to schedule a make-up class.

Class Placement
- Is determined by the directors based on ability, previous dance experience (if any), age and maturity. HHDA reserves the right to transfer students to a different level after an evaluation from the teacher and the directors. If a move needs to be made, it will always be in the best interest of the dancer. Thank you for trusting our staffs evaluation and recognizing their professional knowledge and opinion is in the best interest for your child. Class placement should be finalized by the middle of October.

Communication

Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the studio directly, via phone (508-865-0083) or studio email (hhdanceacademy@gmail.com). Our website is kept up-to-date and should help you find the answer to most of your questions (www.hhhdanceacademy.com). Please avoid contacting the faculty and directors directly via their personal cell phones, text messages or Facebook pages.  Our teachers will not return communication that does not go through the main office.

The first non-refundable $30.00 costume deposit is due October 1, 2019.

The second non-refundable $30.00 costume deposit is due November 1, 2019.

Costumes will not be ordered, if all deposits have not been made for each costume.
Each costume price includes tight(s) and accessories and is around $80.00. Remaining costume balances will be made available to you by the end of March. Final costume payments must be made no later than Saturday, April 11, 2020.  No costume refunds will be made. Costume payments cannot be made in lieu of tuition payments.

Costumes will be distributed to the dancers in later April/early May, after vacation.

Recital Information

The annual recital is not required but strongly encouraged. Please be sure to inform the office, if your child will not be participating in the recital, no later than November 1st.  HHDA puts on 3 recitals a year. Each show is roughly 2 hours and 40 minutes.  Each class besides the invited company dancers will perform in only one recital and only have to come to one dress rehearsal.

The annual recitals are scheduled for June 13th &14th held at Grafton High School. Dress rehearsal dates are June 9th, 10th, 11th. Attendance to your classes scheduled dress rehearsal time is mandatory for anyone who participates in the recital. Recital and rehearsal schedule will be available by April. Class listing for the recitals will be available in March.
Recital tickets will not be sold to a family if all costumes, competition fees and tuition balances are not paid in full. Tickets will go on sale in May.  May tuition and a half-month of June’s tuition must be paid before purchasing tickets. Tickets will not be reserved or saved for any family. There will be a maximum number of tickets allowed per dancer. A waiting list will be created for families who need more than the maximum number allowed. If there are remaining tickets available we will sell form the wait list. Luckily every seat in the auditorium is a good seat; therefore, seats are not numbered.

Dancers in Multiple Shows
…. HHDA tries to accommodate siblings when putting the order of the recitals together; however there is NO guarantee that your children will be in the same recital. Dancers who take extra classes in addition to their Ballet, Tap and Jazz classes, such as Hip Hop, Musical Theater or Acro, will most likely be in separate recitals. Tickets for multiple recitals will need to be purchased at the full price.
