Studio Handbook 2017-2018

For All Parents and Students :)

One of the primary goals of our faculty is to teach life lessons and skills that offer children the best chance for success. Dance education encompasses far more than technique and the steps your children learn. We believe the discipline of dance training gives young people a better understanding of commitment through learning, experiencing the spirit of teamwork, and discovering what they can accomplish through hard work. Our goal is to educate their minds, bodies, souls of our students, teaching them the skills they needed for a successful life, whether or not they stay involved in dance.

Respect for the teachers is essential.
Listen to each correction given, whether it is directed at you or another dancer. A correction is an honor: it shows you how much a teacher care about your progress as a dancer. Always say thank you when a teacher or choreographer offers you constructive criticism. Nothing can stop those students who apply themselves in every class and appreciate their teacher’s knowledge and experience.

Rules & Policies

Class Attendance

It is up to you to make sure your dancer participates in their class. To ensure progress and compatibility among dancers, students must attend their classes. If a child is excessively absent once choreography has started, they will not be able to participate in the recital. Please understand that in order to instruct proper dance technique, participation is mandatory.

Refunds will not be given for any missed classes; however make-up classes are available until April. A Make-up schedule is available in the waiting room. Please call the office to schedule a class or use the customer portal.

Class Placement
- Is determined by the directors based on ability, previous dance experience (if any), age and maturity. HHDA reserves the right to transfer students to a different level after an evaluation from the teacher and the directors. If a move needs to be made, it will always be in the best interest of the dancer.Thank you for trusting our staffs’ evaluation and recognizing their professional knowledge and opinion is in the best interest for your child. Class placement should be finalized by the middle of October.

Communication

- Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the studio directly, via phone (508-865-0083) or studio email (hhdanceacademy@gmail.com). Our website is kept up-to-date and should help you find the answer to most of your questions (www.hhhdanceacademy.com). Please avoid contacting the faculty/directors directly via their personal cell phones, text messages or Facebook.

Recital Information

The annual recital is not required but strongly encouraged that all participate. Please be sure to inform the office, if your child will not be participating in the recital, no later than November 1st. HHDA puts on 3 recitals a year.

The annual recitals are scheduled for June 16th and 17th . Dress rehearsal dates are June 12th, 13th, and 14th. Attendance is mandatory for anyone who participates in the recital. Recital and rehearsal schedule will be available by March. The class listings for the recitals will be available after February vacation.

Recital tickets will not be sold to a family if all costumes, and competition tuition balances are not paid. Tickets will go on sale in May. May tuition and a half month of June’s tuition must be paid before purchasing tickets. Tickets will not be reserved or saved for any family. There will be a maximum number of tickets allowed per dancer. A waiting list will be created for families who need more than the maximum number allowed. If there are remaining tickets available we will sell form the wait list. Luckily every seat in the auditorium is a good seat, therefore, seats are not numbered.

Dancers in Multiple Shows…. HHDA tries to accommodate siblings when putting the order of the recitals together; however there is NO guarantee that your children will be in the same recital. Dancers who take extra classes in addition to their Ballet, Tap and Jazz classes, such as Hip Hop, Irish Step or Acro, will most likely be in separate recitals. Tickets for multiple recitals will need to be purchased at the full price.

Inclement Weather

For class cancellations due to inclement weather please check the Facebook page, the website, as well as the studio voice mail, where a message will be left for you. All cancellations are posted by 2 o’clock. Cancellations are not determined by school closings. If the roads are determined safe before afternoon classes, we will open. Morning preschool classes will follow the cancellations of the Millbury School District.

Class Observation

HHDA believes it is important for the parents to see their dancers’ progress. We have closed circuit TV’s that are turned on periodically in the waiting room. Keep an eye in the newsletters for a scheduled viewing time.

Office Hours will be made available in September

Studio opens weekdays at 3:45pm and Saturday at 7:45am.

Dress Code

Dress code is strictly enforced. Students should arrive for class 5 to 10 minutes before class is to begin in proper dress code. Being on time ensures each dancer will have proper time to warm up in class to prevent injuries. Dancers that are late will need to stretch before they can partake in the class. Please abide by the studio dress code and shoe policies. All hair should be pulled off the face and no jewelry should be worn.
Dress Code is available on our website.
Read more for dress code requirements for individual classes.
